On-Location Medical Team Headshots | Siskiyou Vital Medicine | Medford, Oregon

Medical Teams tend to find it difficult to get organized as a group for headshots together. Would you believe we photographed the Siskiyou Vital Medicine Team outdoor, on-location from November 2020 through April 2021? I have quite a few offices I photograph headshots as what you might call, “on-demand.” Many medical office teams have turnover, new hires, or are simply too busy to get together at one time, I can accommodate a spread out availability schedule with no problem.

When I approach a doctor’s office that needs staff headshots, I find it very important to bring up some considerations and key points:

  • Are you photographing headshots all at once?
  • Are you a long-term, very solid team? OR Should we plan to eventually shoot new hires (in the next 1-2 years)?
  • Is anyone pregnant or have braces? How should we work around those? Generally, these can simply be future re-shoots or some creative editing, but mostly these are time-sensitive notes. Sometimes you can work around them, sometimes you cannot.

Doing Photography in the Rogue Valley over a variety of seasons can be a bit tricky if you don’t know what to plan for. It can lead to very inconsistent outdoor headshots if you’re shooting in any season or month. When we started the initial set of headshots, we had the idea that a few more headshots would be booked months from that date. With that little note on hand, I chose to utilize the evergreen landscaping right in their parking lot. While the photos don’t have an exact cookie-cutter backdrop, the general color, tone, and leafy green remain for all shots. Even if I was shooting everyone on the same date, I try to avoid the exact backdrop pattern so that when placed together, they don’t get boring to look at as a group.

Other important details are to choose a spot with as much flat, but good light as possible. A couple of shots have a little glimmer of backlit hair, but otherwise, the rest remain pretty balanced. This is primarily controlled by sticking to a specific block of daylight, noon or onward for this office.

Lastly, hats off to the Spotlight Marketing Team on developing the new Siskiyou Vital Medicine website transformation. It’s looking so great, and I love the design they used for the headshot layout since we have avoided trying to get an entire team shot just yet. It blends nicely and goes so well with the office personality and what this wonderful medical team offers to our Southern Oregon communities.
